The Ukraine government has approved the procedure for distributing funds to support scientific institutions and university research. It involves allocating more than UAH3 billion (US$68 million) across three main directions: supporting scientific and academic staff, developing research infrastructure and modern equipment, and institutional development, reports Mezha.
The decision was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko on Telegram. A key criterion for evaluating the performance of scientific institutions will be their effectiveness. The base funding amount will be determined based on the results of the state attestation. “Based on the results of the state attestation, 246 leading scientific institutions and higher education establishments will receive base funding. More than 50 thousand scientists will for the first time have an additional salary supplement, as recognition of the results of their institutions’ work,” said Sviridenko.
The government emphasised that the largest funding will go to institutions and universities in the country’s key scientific centres: Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Dnipro and Sumy. It is there that a significant portion of research infrastructure and scientific teams are concentrated.
