The All-Ukrainian Forum „Ukraine 30. Education and Science“ with the participation of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy opened on May 31.
The President noted that the topic of education is a top priority and of paramount importance because it concerns the education, upbringing and formation of the next generations of Ukrainians who will build the country in the future.
„A country that strives to be competitive in today’s world must determine education and science as its strategic areas. After all, the development of a democratic, successful, active society, the development of all spheres – whether those are security and defense, always relevant economy, healthcare, industry, IT or agriculture – all this is impossible without well-educated, erudite, creative Ukrainian citizens,“ stressed the President of Ukraine.
During the Forum, the President signed a decree on the establishment of a presidential university, which would train specialists in information and cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, aerospace and biotechnology.
For his part, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stressed that Ukraine is the third country in Europe in terms of the share of GDP for education in 2021 – 6.5%.
„This demonstrates our responsibility and understanding of what human capital is, what its role is in the economy, in the development and in the future of our country,“ the Head of Government said.
According to the Prime Minister, an important factor in the development of education in Ukraine is the modern educational infrastructure, and the initiative of the President „Great Construction“ ensures the creation of such infrastructure.
„Over the past and this year, hundreds of schools and kindergartens have been built, thereby creating a quality modern infrastructure for education,“ stressed Denys Shmyhal.
Moreover, the Head of Government noted that by the end of the year more than 3,000 settlements, including educational institutions, will have access to high-speed Internet, which is important in the context of students‘ access to modern technologies.
„Developed distance education systems and training courses also enable children, regardless of the family’s wealth, to gain access to quality education. And a joint $200 million program with the World Bank should motivate not only children to learn but also teachers to educate. We will invest more than UAH 1 billion in the purchase of equipment for educational institutions,“ the Prime Minister said.
According to Denys Shmyhal, dual education as an element of public-private partnership in the field of education has proven itself extremely well.
„Today, it is obvious that dual education is the future, because we want children to receive not only theoretical skills but also to get practical skills. That is why the element of dual education, especially in the information and technical sphere, is essential. And the cooperation of educators with business and the state is a formula of success for students, for providing professional and technical development, for the economy,“ the Head of Government emphasized.
Denys Shmyhal noted that the decree signed by the Head of State on the establishment of the Presidential University emphasizes that not only in vocational education but also in higher education, Ukraine seeks to provide students with high-quality education.
„Hundreds and thousands of students in the future will be able to receive quality basic education both in theory and in practice. They will not worry about their future job, because in 90% of cases they will know where they work: either in the civil service, or in a private high-tech company, or in a scientific institution,“ said the Prime Minister.
Denys Shmyhal stressed that the President’s initiative is very important and expressed confidence that in the near future everyone will see the results of its implementation.
